Udupi: A notorious gang that allegedly cheated a jewellery shop owner in the Chikkamagaluru district’s Koppa area by faking an online payment, is said to have made their way to the city.

The Udupi police have cautioned the people about the gang. They have asked the public to keep their eyes open for this notorious group of people and alert them if they notice any suspicious activities.

It can be recalled that, in September, the gang had entered a jewellery shop in Koppa under the pretext of purchasing jewellery. They “paid” for their purchase online and promptly left the shop.

Later, when the owner of the shop realised that the said amount did not actually get credited to his account, he alerted the police. During their investigation, the police found that the scamsters were travelling in a car bearing a fake number plate.
