Udupi: The Udupi district, on Tuesday, August 18, registered the biggest single-day jump in COVID-19 cases with 421 new infections. This takes the total number of confirmed cases in the district to 8,659.
Of the 421 new positive cases, 203 are from Udupi, 158 are from Kundapur, 50 are from Karkala, and 10 are from other districts.
As many as 142 of the 421 cases are symptomatic and 279 are asymptomatic.
As many as 224 of the new cases are male and 197 are female. Of these, 150 contracted the infection from primary contacts, 90 have ILI symptoms, 17 have SARI symptoms. As many as 158 of the cases are under investigation and six persons have domestic travel history.
Of the total 8,659 confirmed cases in the district, 2,637 are active cases. As many as 5,951 patients have been discharged so far and 78 have succumbed to the disease.
