A sharp rise in violent offenses such as theft, home invasions, homicide, and extortion has left the people of Vijayapura deeply unsettled. Recent incidents have fueled anxiety, including a masked intruder attempting to enter a residence armed with a blade and chili powder, a brutal attack on a homeowner during a burglary, and a shocking attempt to secretly dispose of a murder victim at a cemetery.

As lawlessness spreads, worried residents have started self-organized night patrols to safeguard their neighborhoods. Many are reinforcing their homes with security grills, installing surveillance cameras, and demanding stronger action from authorities.

Police officials, concerned by the escalating crime rate, have ramped up security initiatives. The number of active police checkpoints has doubled, interstate borders are under tighter scrutiny, and extensive night patrols are now in effect. Additionally, law enforcement is collaborating with the municipal corporation to repair non-functioning streetlights to improve visibility and safety.

In a breakthrough, officers arrested three individuals from Sangli district for their role in a home invasion in the Jainapur Layout. Meanwhile, Vijayapura MLA Basanagouda Patil Yatnal has urged the police to instill a sense of fear among criminals, insisting that merely filing cases is not enough to curb wrongdoing.

With communities taking charge and police intensifying efforts, residents hope for swift justice and a return to normalcy.
