Jabalpur: The 1999 Kargil war may be history for the rest of India but its alive and ticking beneath the surface in Jabalpur city of Madhya Pradesh!

A report in The Times of India suggests that thousands of unexploded bombs and more of the rejected variety lie buried in the premises of Khamaria Ordnance Factory.

The danger is real given reports of sporadic explosions in recent years. TOI reports that two employees were injured in a minor explosion last Friday.

The newspaper quoted unnamed sources as claiming that over a lakh of 84mm mortars, L70 and BMP2 shells are stockpiled underground at OFK. Adding to the risk is the fear that the detonators have corroded, making it is dangerousto defuse them.

And that’s not the end of the risk. The Khamaria Ordnance Factory also stocks 4000-kg of RDX supplied by Russian state arms export agency M/s Rosoboronexport in 2003.

And why is Russian RDX is lying there? It had failed the quality check; in 2014 Rosoboronexport replaced the stock but did not take back the rejected consignment!
