For Sonia, Rahul to appear in court is a bit too much, says Mamata

New Delhi: Trinamool Congress chief Mamata Banerjee expressed her support to Sonia Gandhi and Rahul Gandhi on their reluctance to appear in court, signalling an effort to reach out to the Congress amidst speculation about the party seeking a tie-up with the Left Front in the West Bengal elections.
“If they have to appear in court after so many years in politics then I really think it is a bit too much,” said Mamata, the West Bengal Chief Minister. “I am not commenting on the court order but this is my personal opinion. If our MPs were standing up in Parliament today, it means that we are with them on this one. Tomorrow is Sonia Gandhiji’s birthday so I will definitely try to meet her.”

Asked if this is a sign of increasing proximity between the Congress and the Trinamool, Mamata said, “In my state the Congress is with the Left… My fight is against injustice, it is not against a political party.”

Mamata met Prime Minister Narendra Modi Tuesday and said she would meet Delhi CM Arvind Kejriwal during her stay.
