San Bernardino: Police shot down a man and woman who were suspected of carrying out a shooting at a centre for the disabled in the Southern California city of San Bernardino on Wednesday. The third accused in the case has been detained, it is reported.
The slain suspects were armed with assault rifles and handguns, San Bernardino police chief Jarrod Burguan told reporters, adding that investigators were looking at the possibility that the suspects had left an explosive device at the scene of the shooting.

Fourteen people were killed and 14 others injured when the gunmen opened fire at the social service agency. San Bernardino police chief Jarrod Burguan said in a televised news briefing that the suspects possibly made their getaway in a dark-coloured sport utility vehicle.

Burguan said he knew no possible motive behind the attack, which unfolded at around 11am at the Inland Regional Centre in San Bernardino, about 60 miles (100 km) east of Los Angeles.

David Bowdich, the FBI assistant director in charge of the Los Angeles field office, cautioned against using the term “terrorism” to describe the incident, saying: “It is a possibility, but we don’t know that yet. And we’re not willing to go down that road yet.”

The Inland Regional Centre is one of 21 facilities set up by the state and run under contract by non-profit organizations to serve people with developmental disabilities, said Nancy Lungren, spokeswoman for the California Department of Developmental Services.
