Dar es Salaam: Africa’s youngest billionaire who was snatched a week ago outside a luxury hotel in Tanzania, was returned safely to his home as reported by the company that he runs.

Mohammed Dewji, the 43-year-old CEO of the METL Group family conglomerate and of Indian origin was nabbed when he had arrived for a morning workout in Dar es Salaam last week.

Forbes estimates his net worth at $1.5 billion, making him the 17th richest man in Africa and its youngest billionaire.

METL Group on their Twitter feed quoted him, “I have returned home safely” but they have not provided any information regarding how he was freed and how he got away from his captors. They also quoted his gratitude to those that worked for his release including the police.

The seizure of Dewji, a past parliamentary member caused an outrage in the East African nation as he is one of their most prominent business executives.

Prior to his return, the Dewji family had offered a reward of 1 billion Tanzanian shillings ($440,000) for information that could lead to his release.
