Global Covid caseload tops 434 mn

Germany approves stricter Covid measures

Washington: The global coronavirus caseload has topped 434 million, while the deaths have surged to more than 5.94 million and vaccinations to over 10.47 billion, according to Johns Hopkins University.

In its latest update on the morning of Sunday February 27, the University’s Center for Systems Science and Engineering (CSSE) revealed that the current global caseload and the death toll stood at 434,088,630 and 5,943,409, respectively, while the total number of vaccine doses administered has increased to 10,477,288,051.

The US continues to be the worst-hit country with the world’s highest number of cases and deaths at 78,929,832 and 948,200, according to the CSSE.

The second worst hit country in terms of cases is India (42,905,844 infections and 513,481 deaths), followed by Brazil (28,749,552 infections and 649,184 deaths).

The other countries with over 5 million cases are France (22,819,557), the UK (18,938,546), Russia (15,941,241), Germany (14,633,528), Turkey (13,975,389), Italy (12,732,680), Spain (10,977,524), Argentina (8,893,568), Iran (7,030,943), the Netherlands (6,242,918), Colombia (6,060,793), Poland (5,651,596), Mexico (5,489,127) and Indonesia (5,504,418), the CSSE figures showed.

The nations with a death toll of over 100,000 are Russia (343,178), Mexico (317,683), Peru (210,407), the UK (161,797), Italy (154,416), Indonesia (147,844), Colombia (138,598), France (139,073), Iran (136,390), Argentina (126,048), Germany (122,639), Ukraine (112,459) and Poland (111,277).
