Islamabad: In a major development, Pathankot terror attack suspected mastermind and Jaish-e-Mohammad Chief Maulana Masood Azhar has been detained in Pakistan from unknown location.

As per Pakistan media, Masood Azhar’s brother too has been taken into preventive custody and questioning process is underway in connection to Pathankot terror attack.

It is believed that attackers affiliated to JeM had infiltrated from Pakistan and executed the Pathankot attack on January 2.

Pakistan on Wednesday held 12 Jaish-e-Mohammed terrorists and as per reports authorities have sealed JeM offices in Bahwalnagar, Bahawalpur, Multan and Muzafargarh cities in anti-terror raids.

It may be recalled that Masood Azhar was arrested in Kashmir in 1994 while travelling on a forged Portuguese passport. India freed him and two other jailed Pakistani militants in 1999 in return for 155 passengers held hostage in an Indian Airlines aircraft IC814 that was hijacked to Kandahar in Southern Afghanistan.

Azhar was named by India as a prime suspect in the 2001 attack on the Parliament where nine people were killed as terrorists drove into the parliament complex and opened fire. The five terrorists were also shot dead and then Pakistan refused to hand over Azhar to India.
