Washington: Humans have achieved milestones in studying planets and other celestial bodies but little attempts were made to get closer to the sun.
Pertaining to this attempt, NASA’s Parker Solar Probe has achieved a milestone, by becoming the first man-made space object to reach the closest layer of the sun. This has created a new world record.
The space object launched on August 12, will revolve around the orbit of the sun, for approximately seven years, in order to reveal the untold mysteries of one of the brightest stars. Apart from revealing mysteries, it was also launched to understand the outer layer of the sun and its impact on space weather.
NASA has said that Parker Solar Probe has passed 42.73 million km from the sun’s surface on October 29, creating a record.
Earlier German-American made Helio 2 spacecraft had reached the closest.
It has only been 78 days since the launch and Parker Solar Probe is expected to reach 6.12 million km by 2024.
