Serious Health Risk: FDA Issues Class 1 Recall for Cal Yee Farm’s Mislabelled Snacks
In a significant development, the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) has raised the recall of several snacks from Cal Yee Farm to its highest risk category, Class 1. This action follows the discovery that certain chocolate and yogurt-covered products were sold with incorrect labelling, posing a severe threat of life-threatening allergic reactions.
The recall covers items such as Dark Chocolate Walnuts, Dark Chocolate Raisins, and Yogurt Coated Almonds, which were sold with undeclared ingredients, including milk, soy, wheat, sesame, artificial coloring (FD&C #6), and almonds. Individuals allergic to these substances are at risk of experiencing severe health issues, including anaphylaxis.
The impacted products include:
- Yogurt Coated Almonds
- Dark Chocolate Apricots
- Dark Chocolate Raisins
- Tropical Trail Mix
- Dark Chocolate Walnuts
- New Orleans Hot Mix
- Hot Cajun Sesame Sticks
These snacks were distributed across various U.S. states, including California, Arizona, and Texas, both online and at retail outlets in Suisun Valley and Placerville, California. The products were sold in clear, resealable pouches ranging from 8 ounces to 5 pounds, featuring a bright yellow label with a small white UPC code.
Although no illnesses have been reported, the FDA’s Class 1 recall signals a significant risk of adverse reactions. Consumers who have bought any of the affected products are urged to discard or return them to the store. The company had initially announced the recall in December 2024, but it was later upgraded after further review.
