Update: Tehreek-e-Taliban Pakistani owns up Bacha Khan attack

Islamabad: After armed men reportedly stormed into Bacha Khan University on Wednesday, January 20, militant group named Tehreek-e-Taliban Pakistani (TTP) has claimed that the attack was carried out by four suicide attackers of the outfit.

Umar Mansoor, a commander in the TTP had informed the same to AFP by phone from an undisclosed location, it is reported.

At least three students have been killed, said Deputy Inspector General Saeed Wazir to Reuters, adding that 70 percent of students had been rescued. However, a Pakistani Minister has stated that 20 including students and one professor have been feared dead in the university during two hour long firing spree opened by militants. The locals reports have been stating that four terrorists have been killed after the army moved into the university.

Terrorists stormed Bacha Khan University in Charsadda in North West Pakistan, about 50 kms from Peshawar, on Wednesday.

As per reports unconfirmed number of gunmen had stormed into the University in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa province and opened fire on students and teachers in classrooms as well students in hostels, at a point of time when 3,000 people were inside the University campus.

Pakistan Nawaz Sharif condemns the terror attack and said the sacrifice of the deceased will not go in vain. “We are determined and resolved in our commitment to wipe out the menace of terrorism from our homeland. The countless sacrifices made by our countrymen will not go in vain,” a statement issued on behalf of the Pakistan PM said.

According to ‘AFP’, the operation has ended and the death toll in Pakistan university attack stands at 21 as of now. Meanwhile, Army continues to search block by block of the university.
Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf chief Imran Khan will visit Charsadda today.

Terrorists stormed Bacha Khan University in Charsadda in North West Pakistan, about 50 kms from Peshawar, on Wednesday.

As per reports three gunmen stromed into the University in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa province and opened fire on students and teachers in classrooms as well students in hostels.

The firing is said to be still going on inside the campus where 3,000 people including students, teachers and administrative staff are stranded.

Television images showed female students clutching hands as they fled the university, with traffic blocked on the roads of Charsadda as security forces rushed towards the campus.

According to some reports two explosions were heard inside the university.

Geo TV reports that five injured have been taken out from the university.

Security officials have cordoned off the area and students are being evacuated from classes.

Peshawar was the location of Pakistan`s deadliest ever extremist attack, when Taliban gunmen stormed an army-run school in December last year and slaughtered more than 150 people, most of them children, in an hours-long siege.
