Yelahanka shocker: Man arrested for tossing trash bag — it held a stillborn baby
A routine favour spiralled into a police investigation for a resident of Yelahanka, Bengaluru, after he unknowingly disposed of a plastic bag containing a stillborn infant. The man, who claimed he was simply helping a neighbour, found himself in custody after CCTV footage linked him to the act.
The disturbing incident began when a 17-year-old girl, living nearby, asked the man to discard a bag near a dumpyard. Unaware of its contents, he obliged. Later, police discovered the body of a male infant inside the bag and, using surveillance footage, traced the man’s movements.
Upon questioning, the man revealed he had no clue what the bag contained. This led officers to the girl’s house, where she confessed the heartbreaking truth: she had hidden her pregnancy from her labourer parents. The child’s father, an autorickshaw driver from the same locality, was her lover. In her eighth month, she experienced labour pains and, with a friend’s assistance, gave birth at home. Tragically, the baby was born still and, in panic, she asked her unsuspecting neighbour to dispose of the body.
Following her confession, police arrested the autorickshaw driver under the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act. He is now in judicial custody.
The neighbour, having been cleared of wrongdoing, has since been released.
