Young lieutenant killed on honeymoon in pahalgam terror attack
Lieutenant Vinay Narwal, just 26 years old, was tragically killed in a terrorist attack in Pahalgam, Jammu and Kashmir, on Tuesday, while on his honeymoon with his wife, Himanshi Narwal. The newlywed couple, who married only eight days ago, had planned a European honeymoon but changed their destination to Jammu and Kashmir after visa issues.
Himanshi survived the attack and recalled the harrowing moment in a video, saying, “I was eating bhel puri with my husband when a man came and said he’s not Muslim, then shot him.” The attack occurred shortly after the couple arrived in Pahalgam on April 21.
Vinay, an engineering graduate, had joined the Navy as a lieutenant three years ago and was posted in Kochi. His family, who reside in Karnal, Haryana, received the tragic news on Tuesday evening. His body is expected to return to Karnal today. His parents, Rajesh Kumar, a Customs superintendent, and Asha Devi, a homemaker, are devastated by the loss.
Vinay’s family, which has a long history of military service, had planned a celebration for his 27th birthday on May 1. He was to return from the honeymoon on May 3, where the couple had booked a rest house in Kochi. The community, which had been filled with joy after his recent wedding, is now in mourning. Vinay’s grandfather, Hawa Singh, shared that Vinay had always aspired to serve in the military and was deeply committed to his country.
