Manual gearbox remains the priority
An enthusiast looking for a car around ₹20 lakh, with flexibility up to ₹25 lakh, has prioritised driving enjoyment over practicality. A manual transmission, good steering feel and confident handling are among the key requirements.
The buyer is also open to petrol or diesel models and is willing to consider two-seaters, limited storage and lower fuel efficiency. Rear-wheel drive or all-wheel drive and an unusual engine configuration would be additional advantages.
Used cars open up exciting choices
Team-BHP contributor GTO suggested that the budget is more suited to the pre-owned market, particularly for buyers interested in RWD or AWD cars.
Among the recommendations were the Mini Cooper S, Skoda Octavia vRS and turbo-petrol versions of the BMW 3 Series. These models can offer a stronger combination of performance, handling and character than many new cars available within the same budget.
Rare cars could be worth the search
Enthusiasts were also advised to watch the used market for uncommon options such as the Volkswagen Polo GTI 1.8 TSI, later examples of the BMW 530d and the Mercedes-Benz C300d.
However, maintenance history, availability of spare parts and the condition of individual cars remain crucial when considering older performance models.
For buyers in Karnataka, widening the search beyond Bengaluru could also help. Enthusiasts may find better examples in markets such as Mumbai or Delhi, although interstate purchase and registration costs need to be considered.
With patience and careful inspection, the ₹20–25 lakh budget could still deliver a car that prioritises driving pleasure over everyday practicality.
