New Delhi: KTM India has increased the price of its entry-level fully faired motorcycle, the RC 160, by Rs 15,000. The Yamaha R15 rival is now priced at Rs 2 lakh (ex-showroom) in India, making it around Rs 2,000 more expensive than the top-spec Yamaha R15 V4. The latest revision also brings the RC 160 much closer to KTM’s larger RC 200 in terms of pricing.

The RC 160 was introduced in India earlier this year as KTM’s most affordable supersport motorcycle. It replaced the RC 125 in the company’s line-up and was launched at Rs 1.85 lakh (ex-showroom). The latest increase means buyers now have to pay Rs 15,000 more for the motorcycle than they did at launch.

The price revision comes at a time when the entry-level performance motorcycle segment remains highly competitive. The RC 160 goes up against the Yamaha R15 V4, while KTM’s own RC 200 sits only around Rs 32,000 above the newly revised RC 160 price.

KTM RC 160 price reaches Rs 2 lakh

Following the latest revision, the KTM RC 160 costs Rs 2 lakh (ex-showroom). The Rs 15,000 increase is significant for a motorcycle positioned in the 160cc performance segment.

The new price also puts the RC 160 approximately Rs 2,000 above the top-end Yamaha R15 V4, which is priced at around Rs 1.98 lakh (ex-showroom). This makes the pricing comparison between the two motorcycles particularly important for buyers considering a fully faired motorcycle in this segment.

The RC 160 originally entered the Indian market at Rs 1.85 lakh. At launch, KTM positioned it as the most affordable member of its RC supersport family, below the RC 200 and RC 390.

KTM’s current official website continues to list the RC 160 as part of its supersport range. The motorcycle uses a 164.2cc single-cylinder, liquid-cooled engine and is designed around a lightweight, race-inspired package.

Yamaha R15 V4 becomes a closer rival

The latest price hike makes the Yamaha R15 V4 an even more direct alternative to the RC 160. With the top-end R15 V4 costing about Rs 1.98 lakh, the difference between the two motorcycles is now only around Rs 2,000.

This narrow price gap could make features and equipment more important for prospective buyers. The Yamaha R15 V4 offers equipment such as a TFT instrument display, traction control and a quickshifter, according to the latest comparison reported by NDTV Auto.

The KTM, meanwhile, continues to focus heavily on its racing-inspired design and chassis package. The RC 160 gets a fully faired body, split-seat layout and styling influenced by KTM’s larger RC models.

The motorcycle is based on the same engine platform used by the KTM 160 Duke, but receives a fully faired design and supersport-focused ergonomics. KTM says the RC 160 has been developed with track-inspired characteristics while remaining suitable for everyday road use.

164.2cc engine produces 19 PS

The KTM RC 160 is powered by a 164.2cc single-cylinder, liquid-cooled engine. According to KTM’s official specifications, the engine produces 19 PS at 9,500 rpm and 15.5 Nm of peak torque at 7,500 rpm. Power is sent to the rear wheel through a six-speed gearbox.

KTM’s official brochure describes the motorcycle as using a single-cylinder, liquid-cooled DOHC engine with Bosch electronic fuel injection. The engine is paired with a six-speed transmission and is designed to deliver strong performance across the rev range.

The RC 160 has a claimed top speed of 118 kmph, according to the launch information reported by NDTV Auto.

The motorcycle also gets a 37 mm inverted front fork and a six-step adjustable rear canister monoshock. Its braking hardware includes a 320 mm front disc and a 230 mm rear disc, while Supermoto ABS is among the rider aids offered on the motorcycle.

RC 160 gets race-inspired equipment

Despite being KTM’s entry-level supersport motorcycle, the RC 160 retains several design and hardware elements associated with the RC family.

The motorcycle features a fully faired body with a sharp front section, LED lighting and a split-seat arrangement. KTM has also equipped it with a 5-inch LCD instrument cluster. The company describes the display as a race-grade unit designed to provide essential riding information.

The motorcycle uses KTM’s split-trellis frame and has a 13.7-litre fuel tank. Its kerb weight is listed at 155 kg, while the saddle height stands at 830 mm.

The suspension and chassis setup is another important part of the RC 160 package. The motorcycle uses WP APEX USD front forks and a canister-type adjustable monoshock at the rear. KTM says the combination is intended to provide precise handling and stability.

RC 200 now costs only Rs 32,000 more

The latest price increase also changes the positioning of the RC 160 within KTM’s own line-up. The KTM RC 200 is priced at Rs 2.32 lakh (ex-showroom), making it approximately Rs 32,000 more expensive than the revised RC 160.

Unlike the RC 160, the RC 200 has not received a corresponding price increase in the latest revision. This makes the price difference between the two motorcycles relatively small compared with the difference at the time the RC 160 was launched.

For buyers already considering spending around Rs 2 lakh on a KTM supersport motorcycle, the additional Rs 32,000 required for the RC 200 could therefore become an important consideration. The RC 200 gets a larger 199.5cc engine producing 25 PS and 19.2 Nm, according to KTM’s official specifications.

The RC 200 also features a larger engine and higher performance output, although buyers will have to decide whether the additional cost fits their budget and requirements.

What the price hike means for buyers

The Rs 15,000 increase puts the KTM RC 160 in a more challenging position than when it was launched at Rs 1.85 lakh. Its original advantage as a relatively affordable entry point into KTM’s fully faired RC family has been reduced.

At Rs 2 lakh, the RC 160 is now positioned almost directly alongside the Yamaha R15 V4. The Yamaha’s equipment package, including features such as traction control, a TFT display and quickshifter on the relevant variant, could make the comparison more difficult for KTM.

At the same time, the RC 160 continues to offer KTM’s distinctive styling, 19 PS engine, inverted front suspension and race-oriented chassis. For riders who prioritise the KTM riding experience and design, these factors could continue to make the motorcycle attractive despite the higher price.

The revised pricing also means customers looking for more performance within the KTM RC family may find the RC 200 worth considering. Its Rs 2.32 lakh price is only Rs 32,000 above the RC 160, while it offers a larger 199.5cc engine and 25 PS.

KTM RC 160 remains an important entry point

The KTM RC 160 continues to serve as the entry point to the brand’s fully faired RC range in India. Its combination of a 164.2cc engine, aggressive styling and track-inspired chassis makes it a direct competitor to motorcycles such as the Yamaha R15 V4.

However, the latest Rs 15,000 price hike has changed the value equation. At Rs 2 lakh, the RC 160 is now almost the same price as the top-end R15 V4, while the RC 200 is also within relatively close reach.

For prospective buyers, the decision will therefore depend not only on outright price but also on the equipment, performance and riding characteristics they prioritise. KTM’s latest revision makes the RC 160 a more expensive proposition, but the motorcycle continues to offer the performance-focused character and race-inspired engineering associated with the RC family.
