India: Mahindra & Mahindra has crossed the 1 lakh billing milestone for its Electric Origin SUVs, marking a major sales milestone for the company’s dedicated electric vehicle portfolio. Executive Chairman Anand Mahindra celebrated the achievement on social media, highlighting the growing momentum of the company’s electric SUV business.

The milestone was reached less than two years after Mahindra opened bookings for its first Electric Origin SUVs, the BE 6 and XEV 9e, in February 2025. The range was later expanded with the three-row XEV 9S.

Mahindra’s latest achievement comes at a time when electric passenger vehicle sales in India are recording strong growth. Government Vahan data showed that electric car sales reached 34,894 units in September 2026, up 95% from 17,924 units in the same month last year. Electric cars accounted for 8.2% of passenger vehicle sales during the month, compared with 5.7% a year earlier.

Anand Mahindra celebrates the milestone

Anand Mahindra shared the achievement on X on October 1, celebrating the company’s progress with its Electric Origin SUV range.

In his post, Mahindra said the company could barely pause to celebrate because of the momentum behind the electric SUV business. His comments came after the company crossed 1 lakh billings since the launch of the range.

Mahindra’s Automotive Business President Dr Velusamy R also confirmed the milestone in the company’s September 2026 sales announcement.

The company said it had crossed 1 lakh billing of its Electric Origin SUVs since launch, alongside recording strong overall SUV sales during September.

BE 6 and XEV 9e started the EV journey

Mahindra introduced the BE 6 and XEV 9e as its first dedicated Electric Origin SUVs.

Bookings opened in February 2025, with the company receiving 30,179 reservations on the first day. These bookings represented an ex-showroom value of Rs 8,472 crore.

The XEV 9e accounted for 56% of the initial bookings, while 73% of customers selected the top-specification Pack Three variants. This indicated strong initial demand for higher-specification versions of the electric SUVs.

Customer deliveries of the BE 6 and XEV 9e began on March 20, 2025. More than 3,000 vehicles had been delivered by April 9, and the combined number of BE 6 and XEV 9e SUVs on Indian roads had crossed 30,000 by November 2025.

Mahindra subsequently expanded the range with the XEV 9S, a three-row electric SUV. Deliveries of the XEV 9S began in January 2026.

XEV 9S adds a three-row option

The XEV 9S broadened Mahindra’s Electric Origin range by introducing a three-row configuration.

By the end of April 2026, cumulative billings of the BE 6, XEV 9e and XEV 9S had reached 65,615 units, according to the NDTV report. The XEV 9e accounted for 34,369 units, followed by the BE 6 at 20,108 and the XEV 9S at 11,138 units.

The XEV 9S has subsequently emerged as an important contributor to the electric SUV range. Its monthly dispatches increased from 3,502 units in May 2026 to 4,508 units in August, according to the reported figures.

The XEV 9e continued to record around 2,000 units a month, while the updated BE 6 SPORTEQ recorded 1,696 units in August.

1 lakh billing milestone reached in 2026

The latest milestone represents a significant increase from the 65,615 cumulative billings recorded at the end of April.

However, the terminology is important. Mahindra has described the achievement as 1 lakh billings, rather than 1 lakh retail registrations or customer deliveries. Billing figures generally relate to vehicles invoiced through the sales channel and should not automatically be treated as an identical measure of vehicles currently on Indian roads.

The milestone nevertheless indicates the scale achieved by Mahindra’s Electric Origin portfolio since the launch of the BE 6 and XEV 9e.

The company had reported in November 2025 that more than 30,000 Electric Origin SUVs had been sold within seven months, equivalent to roughly one vehicle every 10 minutes at that stage.

Mahindra’s overall SUV sales also rise

The electric SUV milestone comes alongside strong overall sales for Mahindra.

In September 2026, the company sold 64,092 SUVs in the domestic market, representing a 14% increase over September 2025. Total auto sales, including exports, stood at 1,14,874 vehicles, up 15% year-on-year.

For the April-September period, domestic SUV sales reached 3,58,142 units, an increase of 20% compared with 2,97,570 units during the corresponding period of the previous year.

Mahindra also recorded domestic commercial vehicle sales of 30,420 units in September, up 14% year-on-year. Three-wheeler sales, including electric three-wheelers, rose 26% during the month to 16,343 units.

The electric SUV milestone therefore comes against a broader period of growth for Mahindra’s automotive business.

Electric SUV market gains momentum

Mahindra’s achievement also comes as India’s electric passenger vehicle market continues to expand.

According to government Vahan data reported on October 2, electric car sales in September increased 95% year-on-year to 34,894 units. The share of electric cars in the passenger vehicle market rose to 8.2% from 5.7% in September 2025.

The growing availability of electric models across price categories has contributed to the expansion of the market. Manufacturers are increasingly introducing electric SUVs, which offer consumers an alternative to conventional petrol and diesel models in one of India’s largest vehicle segments.

Mahindra’s Electric Origin strategy is centred on SUVs rather than small electric hatchbacks, placing the company in a segment where customers are generally looking for higher range, larger interiors and more technology.

Electric Origin range expands Mahindra’s EV portfolio

The BE 6, XEV 9e and XEV 9S form the core of Mahindra’s Electric Origin range.

The company has positioned these models around its dedicated electric vehicle architecture and has continued to develop the portfolio after the initial launch.

Mahindra had also highlighted the use of its electric SUVs across different Indian conditions in its earlier communications. By November 2025, the company said owners had cumulatively driven more than 200 million kilometres, while more than 1,000 vehicles had crossed 20,000 kilometres.

The company has consequently used the Electric Origin range to build a dedicated identity for its electric SUVs rather than simply offering electric versions of existing internal-combustion models.

Conclusion

Mahindra & Mahindra has crossed 1 lakh billings for its Electric Origin SUVs, comprising the BE 6, XEV 9e and XEV 9S. The milestone was celebrated by Executive Chairman Anand Mahindra and comes less than two years after bookings opened for the first two models. With India’s electric passenger vehicle market also expanding, Mahindra’s growing Electric Origin portfolio is becoming an increasingly important part of its SUV business.
