New Delhi: Mercedes-Benz has launched the updated 2026 Mercedes-Benz S-Class in India, with prices starting at ₹2.20 crore (ex-showroom). The luxury limousine receives several design enhancements, advanced technology upgrades and, for the first time in India, a plug-in hybrid powertrain.

The refreshed S-Class is currently available exclusively in the S 450e variant and bookings have commenced across the country. Customer deliveries are expected to begin around Diwali later this year.

The new model replaces the outgoing version, which was priced from ₹1.85 crore, resulting in a price increase of ₹35 lakh for the entry-level variant. The sedan will continue to compete with rivals such as the BMW 7 Series in the premium luxury segment.

Prices and variants

Mercedes-Benz has introduced the new S-Class in two trims:

  • S 450e Launch Edition Exclusive Line – ₹2.20 crore
  • S 450e Manufaktur Edition AMG Line – ₹2.38 crore

The launch marks the arrival of Mercedes-Benz’s first S-Class plug-in hybrid for the Indian market.

First S-Class plug-in hybrid arrives in India

Powering the S 450e is a 3.0-litre turbocharged inline-six petrol engine paired with an electric motor and a 22kWh battery pack.

The combined system produces 435 bhp and 680 Nm of torque, with power delivered to the rear wheels through a nine-speed automatic transmission.

Mercedes-Benz claims the luxury sedan can travel up to 115 km in pure electric mode, making it one of the longest-range plug-in hybrids currently available in India. The car accelerates from 0 to 100 kmph in 5.7 seconds.

The battery can be charged from 10 to 80 per cent in around 20 minutes using a 60kW DC fast charger. Fuel efficiency is rated at 32.2 kmpl under the WLTP cycle.

Subtle but distinctive design updates

While retaining its familiar silhouette, the facelifted S-Class receives several styling revisions.

The front fascia now features a larger grille with chrome-finished three-pointed star inserts and an optional illuminated surround. The Digital Light LED headlamps incorporate Mercedes-Benz’s signature star-themed graphics.

At the rear, redesigned tail lamps feature illuminated star motifs and animated lighting effects. A revised front bumper with larger air intakes enhances the sedan’s visual appeal.

Mercedes-Benz has also introduced new alloy wheel designs, additional exterior paint options and expanded personalisation choices through its Manufaktur programme.

More luxury and technology inside

The cabin receives an updated dashboard layout with new trim finishes and enhanced digital features. India will continue to receive the long-wheelbase version, ensuring generous rear-seat comfort.

Customers choosing the four-seat configuration can opt for executive rear seats capable of reclining up to 43.5 degrees. Heating, ventilation and massage functions are available across all seats.

Additional sound insulation has been introduced to improve cabin refinement, while the ambient lighting package now extends across the dashboard, doors, centre console, air vents and rear seating area.

MBUX Superscreen takes centre stage

A major highlight of the 2026 S-Class is the new MBUX Superscreen system.

The setup combines a 14.4-inch OLED central touchscreen, a 12.3-inch digital instrument cluster and a dedicated 12.3-inch passenger display.

Running on Mercedes-Benz’s latest MB.OS software architecture, the system integrates enhanced artificial intelligence functions through the MBUX virtual assistant. Navigation has also been upgraded with Google Maps support for the augmented reality head-up display.

Rear passengers benefit from dual 13.1-inch entertainment screens supporting streaming services, gaming applications and video conferencing. Other features include a Burmester 4D surround sound system, wireless smartphone connectivity, connected-car technology and four-zone climate control.

Advanced safety package

The luxury sedan comes equipped with an extensive suite of driver assistance technologies, including adaptive cruise control, autonomous emergency braking, lane-keeping assist, blind-spot monitoring and a 360-degree camera system.

Mercedes-Benz has also fitted the S-Class with E-Active Body Control suspension, which continuously adjusts damping characteristics based on road conditions. Rear-wheel steering is offered to improve manoeuvrability despite the vehicle’s large dimensions.

With the introduction of a long-range plug-in hybrid powertrain and a host of technology upgrades, the 2026 S-Class aims to strengthen Mercedes-Benz’s position in India’s ultra-luxury sedan segment.
