Milan: British motorcycle manufacturer Norton Motorcycles has unveiled the new 450 Urban at EICMA 2026, expanding its line-up into the competitive mid-capacity roadster segment. The motorcycle is expected to go on sale in 2027 and could compete with models such as the KTM 390 Duke, Royal Enfield Guerrilla 450 and Aprilia Tuono 457.

The new motorcycle marks another step in Norton’s revival under TVS Motor Company. Designed for urban riding and occasional longer journeys, the 450 Urban combines a newly developed single-cylinder engine with modern electronics and a lightweight chassis.

454cc engine produces 47hp

The Norton 450 Urban is powered by a 454cc, liquid-cooled, single-cylinder engine that produces 47hp at 8,000rpm and 45Nm of peak torque at 6,000rpm.

The engine is paired with a six-speed gearbox and a quickshifter. Norton says the powertrain has been developed to deliver linear acceleration and responsive performance, particularly at lower engine speeds.

The motorcycle is aimed at riders looking for a combination of everyday usability and performance. However, the company has not yet announced its final performance figures, including acceleration and top speed.

Two variants with different styling

The 450 Urban will be available in two versions: a road-focused variant and a more rugged, scrambler-inspired version.

Both motorcycles share the same mechanical platform, but their styling and equipment differ. The standard road version gets 17-inch wheels and road-oriented styling.

The more rugged variant features additional equipment, including hand guards, fork protectors, a windscreen and larger mudguards. These changes give it a more adventurous appearance while retaining the core mechanical package.

The design follows Norton’s latest styling direction, with a compact profile, distinctive proportions and carefully shaped bodywork.

Aluminium frame and adjustable suspension

The motorcycle is built around an aluminium frame designed to provide agility and stability. Suspension duties are handled by a fully adjustable 43mm KYB upside-down front fork and a KYB rear monoshock with rebound and preload adjustment.

Braking is handled by a 320mm front disc and a 240mm rear disc, supported by cornering ABS. Both variants use 17-inch cast alloy wheels.

Norton is targeting a kerb weight of below 180kg, although the final production specifications will determine the confirmed figure.

Modern features and an 8-inch TFT display

The 450 Urban gets an 8-inch TFT touchscreen instrument display with smartphone connectivity. Its equipment package also includes dynamic LED lighting, traction control, cruise control, keyless ignition, heated grips, a USB-C charging port and a tyre pressure monitoring system.

The motorcycle also offers three riding modes and a quickshifter. These features are intended to provide convenience and improve rider control in different riding conditions.

Norton 450 Urban to rival KTM and Royal Enfield

Once launched, the new Norton will enter a segment that already has several established competitors. Its expected rivals include the KTM 390 Duke, Royal Enfield Guerrilla 450 and Aprilia Tuono 457. The upcoming BMW F 450 R could also become a competitor.

The motorcycle’s 454cc engine and feature-rich equipment package will place it among the premium offerings in the middleweight roadster category.

Norton has not announced the official price, final production name or confirmed Indian launch date. Therefore, its positioning in the Indian market will become clearer closer to its launch.

Part of Norton’s revival under TVS

TVS Motor Company acquired Norton Motorcycles in 2020 and has been investing in the British brand’s product development and international expansion.

The 450 Urban joins Norton’s growing portfolio, which includes the Manx R, Manx, Atlas and Atlas GT. The company has been expanding its presence in international markets, with preparations also under way for its entry into India.

The new roadster is expected to play an important role in reaching a wider customer base when sales begin in 2027.
