New Delhi: Toyota Kirloskar Motor is expected to launch the facelifted Glanza in India on October 14, bringing a series of design, feature and powertrain updates to the premium hatchback. The updated model is expected to follow the changes recently introduced on the facelifted Maruti Suzuki Baleno, on which the Glanza is based.
Toyota has not officially confirmed the Glanza name for the upcoming product, but the company has started sending media invitations for a new launch. Reports and dealer sources indicate that the updated Glanza is likely to be unveiled on October 14.
Toyota Glanza facelift: Expected design changes
The Glanza facelift is expected to receive subtle exterior changes rather than a complete redesign. The front could get a revised grille with a new pattern and Toyota-specific styling elements, along with a reworked bumper.
The premium hatchback is also expected to receive redesigned alloy wheels and new exterior colour options. Changes to the lighting housings could be part of the update, although the overall silhouette, headlamp shape and tail-light layout are expected to remain largely familiar.
The approach is similar to the recently updated Baleno, which received a refreshed exterior while retaining its basic proportions and overall design identity.
More safety and comfort features expected
The biggest changes could be inside the cabin, with Toyota expected to borrow several feature upgrades introduced with the new Baleno.
The Glanza facelift could get Level 2 Advanced Driver Assistance Systems (ADAS), which would represent a significant upgrade for the premium hatchback. A tyre pressure monitoring system and six airbags are also expected to be offered as part of the safety package.
Other expected additions include ventilated front seats, an upgraded audio system, a cooled wireless charging pad and refreshed seat upholstery.
These changes would give the Glanza a more technology-focused cabin and bring it closer to the latest equipment levels available in the premium hatchback segment.
New 1.2-litre three-cylinder petrol engine likely
One of the most important changes is expected under the bonnet.
The facelifted Glanza is likely to replace its existing 1.2-litre four-cylinder petrol engine with Suzuki’s new 1.2-litre Z-Series three-cylinder naturally aspirated petrol engine. The same engine has been introduced in the updated Baleno.
In the Baleno, the new engine produces 83 hp and 112 Nm of peak torque. Toyota is expected to offer similar specifications in the Glanza facelift, although final specifications will be confirmed at launch.
The new engine is expected to focus on improved fuel efficiency and better low-end performance for everyday driving.
Manual and AMT gearbox options expected
The transmission line-up is also expected to follow the Baleno.
The updated Glanza is likely to continue with a five-speed manual gearbox while adding or retaining a five-speed automated manual transmission (AMT), depending on the final variant structure.
A CNG version could also continue to be part of the Glanza range, although details about the facelifted CNG model have not been officially confirmed.
Expected price of the new Glanza
The current Toyota Glanza is priced between ₹6.73 lakh and ₹9.99 lakh (ex-showroom), according to the NDTV Auto report.
With the expected design, technology and powertrain upgrades, the facelifted Glanza could command a slight premium over the outgoing model. The exact prices will be announced closer to or at the launch.
The updated hatchback will continue to compete in India’s premium hatchback segment, taking on models such as the Maruti Suzuki Baleno, Tata Altroz and Hyundai i20.
