Valeo has announced a major expansion of its advanced driver assistance systems (ADAS) business in India after securing a nomination from one of the country’s leading automobile manufacturers.

The company said its new Valeo Smart Safety 360 (VSS360) system will be manufactured at its facility in Sanand, Gujarat, and tailored specifically for Indian road conditions and commercial vehicles.

Safety system designed for Indian roads

The VSS360 system includes key safety features such as Automatic Emergency Braking, Lane Departure Warning, Blind Spot Information System and Driver Drowsiness & Attention Warning.

According to Valeo, the system has been developed to handle India’s unpredictable traffic conditions and improve safety for drivers, pedestrians and cyclists.

The ADAS package also supports over-the-air software updates to maintain performance and improve system capabilities throughout the vehicle’s lifecycle.

Local manufacturing to boost affordability

Valeo stated that the India-focused version of the system is designed as a scalable and cost-optimised “one-box” ADAS solution, integrating radar and camera functions into a single platform.

The company said local manufacturing and engineering support from its Indian operations will help reduce costs and make advanced safety technologies more accessible for commercial vehicle manufacturers.

The system uses three radars and one smart camera equipped with computer vision technology.

Supports future safety regulations

Company officials said the system is being developed in line with upcoming safety regulations in India, particularly those focused on reducing accidents caused by driver fatigue and poor visibility.

A major advantage of the technology is its Univolt Camera system, which supports both 12V and 24V electrical architectures, allowing deployment across light commercial vehicles and heavy-duty trucks.

India central to Valeo’s strategy

Marc Vrecko said India plays a major role in the company’s “Elevate 2028” strategy and highlighted the importance of scalable, high-tech safety systems for Indian mobility needs.

Jayakumar G added that increasing regulatory focus on road safety is accelerating ADAS adoption across the Indian commercial vehicle segment
