A tragic incident in Ilkal city, Bagalkot district, left Basamma Yaranal, widow of a deceased soldier, with severe injuries after a hair dryer exploded in her hands on Wednesday.
Basamma, wife of Papanna, a soldier who died in a 2017 accident in Jammu and Kashmir, received the parcel on behalf of her neighbor Shashikala, another soldier’s widow. Shashikala, who was out of town, asked Basamma to check the package. When Basamma switched on the device to demonstrate it, the hair dryer exploded, causing her to lose nine fingers and sustain injuries to her forearms and face.
Suspicious Origins of Parcel
An investigation revealed that Shashikala had not ordered a hair dryer, deepening suspicions about the package. Police are now investigating the device’s manufacturer in Visakhapatnam and tracing its delivery trail to determine the sender and any possible foul play.
The explosion shocked the neighborhood, and Basamma was rushed to the hospital for treatment. The incident has raised concerns about parcel safety and the potential misuse of courier systems.
