As the counting of votes for the 2024 Lok Sabha elections progresses, Bagalkot witnesses a significant electoral outcome. Over 7,000 candidates contested to gain the mandate of over 900 million eligible voters across 543 constituencies, spread across 28 states and 9 union territories, in this massive electoral exercise held in seven phases from 19 April to 1 June 2024.

The polling for Bagalkot took place in Phase 3 on 7th May. The key contenders for the 2024 General Elections in Bagalkot were Gaddigoudar Parvatagouda Chandanagouda from BJP and Samyukta Shivanand Patil from Congress. As per the latest trends, BJP’s Gaddigoudar Parvatagouda Chandanagouda has emerged victorious in Bagalkot.

This victory aligns with the previous electoral trends, as BJP’s Gaddigoudar Parvatagouda Chandanagouda had also won the seat in the 2019 Lok Sabha elections. In 2014, he emerged victorious as well. The assembly seats under Bagalkot parliamentary constituency include Mudhol, Terdal, Jamkhandi, Bilgi, Badami, Bagalkot, Hungund, and Nargund.

In the broader context of Karnataka’s Lok Sabha elections, held in phases two and three, Karnataka’s ruling party Congress contested alone in all 28 seats, while NDA allies BJP and JD(S) made a seat-sharing agreement, with BJP contesting in 25 seats and JD(S) in the remaining three.

Karnataka, being BJP’s stronghold in the South, has historically played a crucial role in national politics. In the 2019 Lok Sabha elections, BJP secured a massive mandate by winning 25 seats, while Congress, JD(S), and an independent candidate secured only one seat each. In the 2014 elections, BJP won seventeen seats in Karnataka, Congress secured nine seats, and JD(S) managed to win just two seats.
