
Bajpe police arrest chain snatcher with multiple theft cases against him
Bajpe police have arrested Abdul Rauf, also known as Auto Rauf, for chain snatching in Shibrikere, Tenkaedapadavu village. The 30-year-old, a resident of Indira Nagar, Haleangadi, was apprehended after snatching a gold chain worth Rs 70,000 from a woman who was walking on the road on December 12. The accused approached the woman under the pretext of asking for an address before snatching the chain and fleeing.
In addition to the gold chain, police recovered a scooter valued at Rs 50,000 and an autorickshaw worth Rs 50,000. Based on the victim’s complaint, police tracked and arrested Abdul Rauf. He was produced in court and remanded to judicial custody.
Further investigations revealed that Rauf has a criminal history, with 10 cases related to extortion and theft registered against him in various locations, including Mulki, Moodbidri, Bajpe, Uppinangady, and Arehalli in Hassan. Notably, he was released on bail just two months ago.
