The Central Crime Branch (CCB) of Mangaluru police apprehended two men involved in multiple chain snatching incidents in Mangaluru and Karkala Rural police station limits.
The accused, Habeeb Hasan (43) from Surathkal and Ummar Shiyaf (29) from Bantwal taluk, were caught near Car Street, Mangaluru. Police recovered a 17.43-gram gold chain, a bike, and a knife used in the crimes.
Key Incidents:
- December 6, 2024: Snatched a chain from Sujina D’Souza, an Anganwadi cook in Naringana village, after forcibly entering the center.
- December 9, 2024: Stole a chain from Vasanthi in Bola village, Karkala, under the pretense of seeking directions.
Criminal Background:
- Habeeb Hasan: Faces 39 cases, including theft, cattle theft, and chain snatching across several police stations.
- Ummar Shiyaf: Previously involved in an attempted murder and two theft cases.
Both had resumed criminal activities after being released on bail just days prior to these incidents.
The case was solved by a team led by ACP Manoj Kumar Naik and Inspector Shyam Sundar H.M., with crucial assistance from CCTV analysis.
