Chain Snatching Incident Leaves Senior Citizen Injured

Karkala: A 66-year-old man, Gopi, sustained injuries in a chain-snatching incident near Ambareesh Cave on Monday. The senior citizen, a resident of Kantavara village, was returning home after visiting Kanteshwara Temple when the attack occurred.

According to Gopi’s complaint, a motorcyclist approached him on the road connecting Baradi to Kantavara, asking for directions in Tulu. Suddenly, the rider grabbed him, attempting to restrain him, and snatched his gold chain. Gopi tried to hold onto the chain, resulting in part of it breaking off and remaining in his hand. The stolen portion of the chain is valued at approximately ₹1.20 lakh.

During the struggle, the assailant forcibly pushed Gopi aside, causing injuries to his left hand, neck, and shoulder. The victim sought help and reported the crime at Karkala Police Station.

Authorities have launched an investigation and are working to identify the perpetrator. This incident has raised concerns about the safety of senior citizens in the area.
