Bengaluru: Deputy Chief Minister and state transport minister Laxman Savadi has said that the traffic fines will be increased under the Motor Vehicles (Amendment) Act 2019, after the State Budget – 2020.
Addressing the media on Wednesday, February 12 he said, “As the Centre had received a lot of grievances stating that the fines were too high, it had said that it was up to the state to levy fines of comparatively lesser rates. But, the revised fines as per the Motor Vehicles (Amendment) Act 2019 will once again be implemented after the State Budget is tabled.”
It can be recalled that the Centre had issued an advisory to all the state governments stating that the rate of the fines cannot be reduced below a prescribed minimum, unless consent is taken from the President of India, to make changes in the state law.
The state budget is scheduled to be tabled on March 5.
