Karnataka Women and Child Development Welfare Minister Lakshmi Hebbalakar and her brother, Karnataka Legislative Council member Chennaraju Hattiholi, were injured in a car accident early this morning near Ambadgatti in Kittur Taluk, Belagavi district.

The accident occurred around 6:00 am when a dog reportedly ran in front of the vehicle. The driver swerved to avoid the animal, lost control, and the car collided with a roadside tree. Fortunately, all safety airbags deployed, preventing severe injuries.

Minister Hebbalakar sustained minor injuries to her face and back, while her brother suffered head injuries. Both are receiving treatment at a private hospital and are reported to be in stable condition.

The minister was traveling from Bengaluru to Belagavi by road after attending a Congress Legislative Party (CLP) meeting on Monday. Due to the lack of evening flights between the two cities, she opted for a road journey.

Her son, Mrunal Hebbalkar, confirmed the incident and emphasized that the accident was caused while trying to avoid the dog. The swift action of the driver in combination with the car’s safety features averted a major tragedy.

Further updates on their recovery are awaited.
