Karnataka government has been urged to halt the Progressive River Authority for Water and Harmony (PRAWAH) team’s scheduled visit to the contentious Kalsa-Bhandura water diversion project sites on July 7.

Background

Kannada organizations in Belagavi and North Karnataka argue that the PRAWAH team, formed by the Center at Goa’s insistence, is unnecessary. They cite rulings from the Mhadei Water Dispute Tribunal (MWDT) and subsequent Supreme Court directives on water sharing as sufficient.

Concerns Raised

Prominent Kannada activist Ashok Chandargi asserts that PRAWAH’s visit violates Supreme Court rulings and alleges it to be part of a conspiracy orchestrated by Goa to delay the Kalsa-Bhandura project.

Government Action

Chandargi has appealed to Karnataka’s Chief Secretary, Deputy Chief Minister, and Chief Minister to intervene. He emphasizes the need for Karnataka authorities to expedite necessary clearances for wildlife and environmental concerns related to the project.
