Belagavi: In a swift overnight operation, authorities in Raibag taluk demolished the unauthorised ashram of self-styled godman Hathyogi Lokeshwar Swami, who was recently arrested on charges of abducting and sexually assaulting a minor girl.
The demolished structure, known as Ram Mandir Mutt, was situated on survey number 225 in Mekhali village. Reports suggest it had been constructed around eight years ago by encroaching approximately 8 acres of government grazing land (Gairan land). Despite lacking legal approval, the mutt had been functioning openly for years.
The demolition drive was carried out in the early hours following the seer’s judicial custody. Officials used three bulldozers to raze the illegal premises, including the temple associated with the mutt.
This action is part of a broader initiative by local authorities to crack down on illegal land encroachments and reinforce the rule of law. The move sends a strong message against unauthorised constructions, particularly those tied to individuals facing serious criminal allegations.
Officials stated that more such illegal encroachments are being identified and will be acted upon in the coming weeks.
