BELAGAVI: A 23-year-old man is missing after his motorcycle plunged into the Markendeya River while crossing a flooded road near Kangrali KH village in Belagavi taluk. The incident occurred on Saturday evening when Omkar Arun Patil, from Alatga village, was swept away by the current. His sibling, Jyotinath, managed to swim to safety.
The motorcycle lost balance while traveling from Alatga village towards Kangrali Khurd, causing it to fall into the nala (drain) along with the riders. Jyotinath Patil, 25, was rescued, but Omkar Patil remains missing. Kakati police and the National Disaster Response Force (NDRF) are on the scene, searching for the missing young man in the nala.
The brothers were on their way to Kangrali Khurd for a haircut around 7:30 PM when the accident occurred. Jyotinath managed to grab onto a bush and pull himself to safety, but Omkar was swept away by the current. Authorities suspect that the missing youth may have been carried into the Markandeya River, as water from the drain flows into it. A search operation is currently underway.
Rescue teams are working tirelessly to locate Omkar, and the community is hopeful for a positive outcome. The incident serves as a reminder of the dangers posed by flooded roads and the importance of exercising caution during heavy rains.
