Bengaluru: Eleven female passengers were booked under a non-cognisable report (NCR) following a disturbance inside a Namma Metro train on the night of March 15, officials said.
The incident occurred at around 10:57 pm on a train travelling from BIEC towards KGWA, where a group of women allegedly created a disturbance that disrupted fellow passengers and briefly affected metro operations.
Singing inside coach sparks dispute
According to officials, the group began singing loudly inside the metro coach, which led to objections from other commuters. The situation soon escalated into an argument between the group and fellow passengers.
The disagreement continued as the train reached Peenya Industrial Area station, where some of the women reportedly deboarded and carried on the argument on the platform.
Train doors obstructed, delay reported
Authorities said the altercation resulted in a brief obstruction of train doors at the station, delaying the train’s departure by approximately 20 minutes.
Security personnel stationed at the metro intervened promptly and managed to bring the situation under control, ensuring that services resumed without further disruption.
Nuisance reported at multiple stations
Officials further stated that the same group allegedly created disturbances at several stations along the route, including:
- Goraguntepalya
- Sandal Soap Factory
- Mahalakshmi
- Kuvempu Road
Metro security staff, along with home guards, tracked and identified the individuals involved. With assistance from Hoysala patrol teams, the women were apprehended in phases.
NCR registered, apology issued
Based on a complaint filed by BMRCL Security Officer Gajendra P, Peenya police registered a non-cognisable report against the 11 women.
Police officials said all the accused later apologised for their behaviour. The NCR has been referred to a court, and the individuals are expected to pay a penalty as part of the legal process.
Metro authorities ensure normalcy
Officials from Bangalore Metro Rail Corporation Limited stated that the situation was handled efficiently by security staff, and normal metro operations were restored without prolonged disruption.
Authorities reiterated the importance of maintaining discipline in public transport systems to ensure a safe and comfortable environment for all passengers.
