Bengaluru police arrested 23 people during a major crackdown on alleged illegal betting linked to the ongoing Indian Premier League (IPL) cricket tournament.
According to reports, the Special Investigation Squad of the Central Crime Branch (CCB) conducted raids across multiple locations in the city under different police station limits on Tuesday.
Multiple betting cases registered
Police said 17 separate cases related to cricket betting were registered during the operation.
The raids reportedly targeted illegal betting activities being operated during IPL matches. Officials detained 23 accused persons in connection with the cases.
Cash, phones and betting chips seized
During the operation, police seized seven mobile phones valued at around ₹1.10 lakh along with cash amounting to ₹1,06,433.
Authorities also confiscated betting chips reportedly valued at nearly ₹13.37 crore.
According to officials, the total estimated value of seized items stood at approximately ₹13.39 crore.
Crackdown on illegal betting continues
Police said investigations are continuing to identify larger betting networks and possible links connected to online and offline gambling operations.
Illegal betting during major sporting events, especially the IPL season, remains a recurring concern for law enforcement agencies across India.
Officials have repeatedly warned people against participating in unauthorised betting activities, noting that such operations are often linked to financial fraud and organised crime networks.
The latest crackdown once again highlights Bengaluru police’s focus on monitoring illegal gambling activities during high-profile cricket tournaments.
