Thousands of commuters using Haralur Main Road received much-needed relief after civic authorities carried out emergency asphalting work on the damaged stretch connecting Sarjapur Road and Hosur Road.

The road, which had become notorious for potholes, dug-up sections, loose gravel and traffic bottlenecks, was repaired overnight after concerns over accidents and commuter safety were highlighted.

Road repaired overnight

Acting on complaints from residents and commuters, Greater Bengaluru Authority (GBA) Chief Commissioner Maheshwar Rao and Bengaluru South City Corporation (BSCC) Commissioner KN Ramesh directed officials to take up immediate repair work.

The stretch between Birla Junction and Prestige Ferns Residency was closed after 10 pm on Thursday, allowing crews to begin asphalting. By Friday morning, commuters were greeted with a noticeably smoother road surface.

Residents welcome swift action

The rapid response drew appreciation from residents and daily commuters who have endured months of inconvenience.

Many said traffic movement had improved significantly, reducing stress and making travel safer. Residents noted that frequent skidding incidents, near-misses and vehicle damage had become common due to the poor condition of the road.

Rohit Gurnani, a Haralur resident, welcomed the repairs and said it was encouraging to see authorities responding to long-pending civic concerns. However, he stressed that issues such as drainage, waterlogging, waste management and encroached footpaths still require attention.

Permanent solution still awaited

While residents expressed relief, they also urged authorities to complete the ongoing drainage works and deliver a lasting solution.

BSCC officials said two additional layers of asphalt will be laid after the completion of drain-related works in the area.

For now, residents say the repairs have made a visible difference, particularly for those travelling between HSR Layout, Sarjapur Road and surrounding neighbourhoods. Many hope the quick action marks the beginning of broader improvements to one of the area’s most important commuter corridors. #Bengaluru #HaralurRoad #RoadRepair #Infrastructure #Commuters #newskarnataka
