Two highly trained sniffer dogs of the Railway Protection Force (RPF), Arjun and Amar, were ceremonially retired after serving Indian Railways for more than a decade.

The retirement ceremony was held on Thursday, where railway officials and RPF personnel paid tribute to the canines for their years of dedicated service in safeguarding passengers, railway property and critical infrastructure.

Guardians of railway security

According to South Western Railway (SWR), both dogs were specially trained in explosive detection and played a key role in maintaining security across railway premises.

Throughout their service, Arjun and Amar participated in numerous security operations, inspections and special deployments aimed at ensuring passenger safety.

Amar’s award-winning career

Amar earned recognition beyond routine security duties by representing the RPF at the prestigious All India RPF Dog Competitions on three occasions.

The canine secured two silver medals at the national level and added three more silver medals at zonal-level RPF dog competitions, showcasing exceptional skill and discipline.

Arjun’s contribution recognised

Arjun was frequently deployed during major railway events and public gatherings, where enhanced security arrangements were required.

Railway officials acknowledged the dog’s contribution in supporting bandobast duties and maintaining vigilance during important occasions.

Railway officials honour canine heroes

Ashutosh Kumar Singh, Divisional Railway Manager, Bengaluru, honoured the retiring dogs in recognition of their invaluable service.

The ceremony was attended by Shreyans Chinchawade, Senior Divisional Security Commissioner, Bengaluru Division, along with senior railway officers, RPF personnel and members of the dog squad.

The event served as a heartfelt farewell to two loyal canine officers whose dedication contributed significantly to railway safety over the years.
