BENGALURU: A shocking incident unfolded aboard Air India flight AI 175 from Bengaluru to San Francisco when passenger Mathures Paul discovered a sharp metal cutter in his lunch, narrowly avoiding a potentially life-threatening situation.
Paul, a journalist from Kolkata flying business class, encountered the metal piece resembling a blade while eating roasted sweet potato and fig chaat. Fortunately, he detected it in time to prevent swallowing it, highlighting serious concerns over food safety and airline catering standards.
Expressing his dismay, Paul noted the alarming implications had the object been ingested, especially by a child. The incident has raised questions about Air India’s catering services and security protocols onboard.
Air India’s Chief Customer Experience Officer, Rajesh Dogra, acknowledged the foreign object originated from a vegetable processing machine at their catering partner’s facility. Steps have been taken to prevent recurrence, including enhanced checks of processing equipment.
The incident underscores broader safety issues within airline operations, prompting calls for a thorough investigation and tighter security measures.
