Bengaluru police have arrested a 34-year-old airport employee for allegedly murdering his female friend and attempting to destroy evidence by burning her body near Devanahalli.
The arrest comes after police discovered a charred body of an unidentified woman in Devanahalli town last month.
Body found in stormwater drain
According to police officials, the body of a woman aged around 35 years was found around 11 am on February 25 in a stormwater drain near Swarnadri Hotel in Devanahalli.
Investigators said the victim’s body had been tied with a rope and wrapped in a bedsheet and plastic tarp before being set on fire.
Police believe the accused poured petrol on the body and attempted to burn it in an effort to destroy evidence and conceal the crime.
Case registered and investigation launched
Following the discovery, Police Sub-Inspector Manjunath H filed a complaint at the Devanahalli Police Station, based on which a case was registered.
The case was booked under provisions of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS), including:
- Section 103(1) – unnatural death
- Section 238 – attempt to destroy evidence or conceal a crime
Police then launched a detailed investigation to identify the victim and trace the suspect.
Accused arrested
During the investigation, police identified the suspect as a 34-year-old airport employee who was reportedly acquainted with the victim.
Authorities arrested the accused and are currently questioning him regarding the circumstances surrounding the woman’s death.
Officials said further investigation is underway to determine the exact motive and sequence of events leading to the crime.
