A software development engineer at Amazon has sparked conversation online after revealing how he manages a comfortable lifestyle in Bengaluru while spending around ₹35,000 a month.
Prem Raj, an SDE-1 at Amazon, shared a video on Instagram detailing his monthly expenses, offering a realistic glimpse into the spending habits of a young tech professional in one of India’s most expensive cities.
Rent takes the biggest share
According to Prem Raj, his largest monthly expense is rent. He lives in a two-bedroom apartment in Marathahalli and shares the accommodation with a flatmate.
While the total rent for the apartment is ₹30,000, his contribution comes to ₹15,000 per month. Several social media users expressed surprise at the relatively affordable rent, prompting him to clarify that the cost is split between two occupants.
Fitness and food priorities
The engineer spends ₹3,000 on a cook, ₹2,000 on petrol for his motorcycle, and another ₹3,000 on groceries and household essentials.
Fitness is also a key priority. He allocates around ₹2,000 every month towards gym membership and protein supplements. To maintain his dietary goals, he spends an additional ₹3,000 on chicken and other protein-rich foods.
Weekend food deliveries add roughly ₹2,000 to his monthly expenses, as his cook is often unavailable during weekends.
A realistic budget wins praise
Prem Raj also spends around ₹2,000 on internet, electricity and subscriptions, while appliance rentals such as a refrigerator and washing machine cost him ₹1,000 monthly. Occasional shopping accounts for another ₹2,000.
Altogether, his monthly expenditure comes to approximately ₹35,000.
The video quickly gained traction online, with many users praising the transparency and practicality of his budget. Several commenters described it as one of the most realistic expense breakdowns shared by a tech professional on social media
