Bengaluru: US e-commerce giant Amazon on Monday (February 23) inaugurated a new office campus in north Bengaluru, further strengthening its presence in India. The facility, touted as Amazon’s second-largest office in Asia, spans over 11 lakh sq ft and will support more than 7,000 employees across multiple business functions.
The 12-storey complex is located on a five-acre plot adjacent to Kempegowda International Airport near Kattigenahalli in Yelahanka, a rapidly developing business corridor in the northern part of the city.
Major boost to Bengaluru operations
According to the company, the new campus will house teams from e-commerce, operations, payments, technology and seller services in India. The expansion underscores Amazon’s continued focus on India as a long-term growth market.
“India continues to be a long-term priority for Amazon, and Bengaluru has played a central role in our journey here. Over the years, the city has been home to some of our earliest technology and business teams, and today it remains a key hub for innovation and talent,” said Samir Kumar, Country Manager, Amazon India.
He added that the company remains committed to investing in infrastructure, technology and talent as it builds for customers in India and globally.
The campus was inaugurated in the presence of Dr M.B. Patil, Karnataka’s Minister for Large & Medium Industries and Infrastructure Development.
Second-largest in Asia
Amazon’s new Bengaluru campus is its second-largest office facility in Asia. The company’s biggest office in the region is located in Hyderabad, opened in 2019 at Nanakramguda. The Hyderabad campus spans 18 lakh sq ft and houses over 15,000 employees.
With the addition of the new facility in Bengaluru, Amazon is significantly scaling up its footprint in India’s technology capital.
Since entering India, Amazon has invested over $40 billion in the country. The company has also announced plans to invest an additional $35 billion by 2030, signalling its long-term commitment to the Indian market.
Bengaluru strengthens tech hub status
The development comes at a time when Bengaluru is witnessing a fresh wave of investments from global technology majors. Amid tightening H-1B visa norms in the United States, several multinational firms are expanding their India operations, particularly in Bengaluru.
Earlier this month, AI company Anthropic opened its office in the city, marking its second Asian presence after Japan. Search engine giant Google has reportedly leased around 24 lakh sq ft of office space in the Karnataka capital. Meanwhile, OpenAI has confirmed plans to open its Bengaluru office later this year.
Industry experts say these investments reinforce Bengaluru’s status as India’s Silicon Valley and a preferred destination for global capability centres (GCCs).
Government welcomes investment
Speaking at the inauguration, Dr M.B. Patil said Amazon’s continued investment reflects India’s growing importance as a global innovation hub.
“Amazon’s continued investment in Bengaluru reflects India’s growing role as a global technology and innovation hub. Large-scale campuses like Amazon’s new campus create high-quality jobs, strengthen the local ecosystem and support India’s digital economy,” he said.
He added that the Karnataka government welcomes long-term investments that build capability and generate employment opportunities for the state’s workforce.
Focus on long-term growth
The new campus is expected to create a modern and collaborative work environment, with facilities designed to support innovation and employee well-being. Company officials indicated that the office will play a key role in product development, technology innovation and customer solutions tailored for both Indian and global markets.
With over 7,000 employees set to operate from the new campus, the move represents one of the largest recent office expansions by a multinational firm in Bengaluru.
As global technology companies continue to deepen their India footprint, Amazon’s latest investment further cements Bengaluru’s position as a critical hub in the global digital economy.
