A heartfelt post by an American visitor thanking Bengaluru after a five-month stay has gone viral on social media, with many residents expressing pride in the city’s warmth, hospitality and culture.
In a Reddit post titled “Thanks Bangalore”, the visitor shared how he and his family moved to the city for work despite reading numerous online warnings about traffic congestion, garbage and civic issues before arriving.
“You all have a great city”
The American said that while Bengaluru does face challenges, his family’s experience was overwhelmingly positive.
“We are Americans with no prior connection to India and are just finishing up a five-month trip here for work. Despite all that, you all have a great city,” he wrote.
He added that his family enjoyed their stay so much that his children were reluctant to leave.
“My kids don’t want to go home,” he said.
Kindness of locals leaves lasting impression
The visitor particularly praised the friendliness of Bengaluru residents, recalling how strangers frequently stepped in to help whenever his family struggled to navigate the city’s bus network.
He also noted that they did not encounter many of the problems often highlighted by foreign travellers.
According to the post, none of the family members fell ill during their stay, they faced no scams, and apart from concerns about road safety, they did not experience any serious difficulties.
The visitor described obtaining an Indian visa as the most challenging part of the journey.
Social media celebrates Bengaluru’s spirit
The post quickly attracted reactions from Bengaluru residents and others across India.
Many users highlighted the city’s pleasant weather, diverse food culture, welcoming people and vibrant social life. Others acknowledged Bengaluru’s infrastructure challenges but agreed that its warmth, opportunities and quality of life continue to attract people from around the world.
Concluding his message, the visitor wrote, “Overall, thanks for having us, five stars, we’ll be back.”
The post has resonated with many Bengaluru residents, serving as a reminder that despite its challenges, the city continues to leave a lasting impression on visitors from across the globe.
