A 30-year-old man from Andhra Pradesh was allegedly murdered and his body set on fire near Sarjapur on the outskirts of Bengaluru, prompting an intensive police investigation.
The deceased has been identified as Vamsikrishna, a native of Tenali in Andhra Pradesh’s Guntur district. He was residing in a paying guest accommodation in Electronics City and was reportedly unemployed after previously working at a private firm.
Body found near deserted road
According to police, the incident came to light around 6.30 pm on Thursday when a hotel owner noticed thick smoke rising from a roadside garbage dump on Bikkanahalli Main Road in Burugunte village, near a private university.
On reaching the spot, the hotel owner found Vamsikrishna’s body engulfed in flames. His two-wheeler had also been set on fire. Sarjapur Police were immediately alerted and rushed to the scene.
Officials shifted the body, which had sustained more than 70 per cent burn injuries, for post-mortem examination.
Victim had gone to meet a friend
Preliminary investigations revealed that Vamsikrishna had left his paying guest accommodation after receiving a phone call from a friend from Andhra Pradesh who had reportedly arrived in Bengaluru and requested him to pick him up.
Police said his mobile phone later became unreachable, raising suspicions that he was intercepted by unidentified assailants before reaching his destination.
Investigators suspect the attackers assaulted him, poured petrol on him, set him ablaze, and fled the scene.
Murder case registered
Sarjapur Police have registered a case of murder and begun a detailed investigation. Statements of Vamsikrishna’s friend and other witnesses have been recorded.
Police have seized the victim’s burnt two-wheeler and are examining CCTV footage from nearby areas to identify the accused, who remain absconding. Officials said all possible angles are being investigated, and efforts are underway to trace those responsible for the brutal killing.
