A 22-year-old woman from Assam‘s Tamulpur district has been reported missing in Bengaluru for the past week, prompting her family to appeal to the authorities for urgent assistance in tracing her.

The missing woman, identified as Sumi Das, is a resident of Harinchara village along the Indo-Bhutan border. According to her family, she had been working at a private company in Bengaluru for the past six months after moving to the city to support her financially struggling family.

Family alerted by co-workers

Sumi’s father said she had initially travelled to Tamil Nadu about a year ago in search of employment before later securing a job in Bengaluru. She was residing in a rented accommodation with three other women.

According to her family, Sumi went missing on June 26. Her parents came to know about her disappearance after receiving information from her co-workers in Bengaluru, who informed them that she could not be traced.

Concerned about her safety, the family immediately lodged a missing person complaint at Kumarikata Police Station in Assam’s Tamulpur district.

Police launch investigation

Police have confirmed that an investigation has been initiated and that higher authorities have been informed about the case. Efforts are underway to gather information that could help locate the missing woman.

The family said they have been living in constant anxiety since learning of her disappearance and are desperately waiting for any news about her whereabouts.

Appeal to authorities

Sumi’s parents have appealed to Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma to intervene and coordinate with the Karnataka authorities to ensure a thorough search and their daughter’s safe return.

The incident has once again highlighted the challenges faced by migrant workers living away from their families and the importance of swift coordination between states in handling missing person cases.

Police have urged anyone with information about Sumi Das or her whereabouts to immediately contact the nearest police station.
