The second edition of the Bangalore Fountain Pen Show is set to take place this weekend at Trustwell Hospitals on JC Road. This unlikely venue, chosen by doctors passionate about fountain pens, aims to connect both enthusiasts and children who may have never seen the classic writing instrument. The two-day event will feature over 40 fountain pen brands and a wide selection of inks, along with various activities like handwriting analysis and calligraphy workshops.

The idea for the event was initiated by Dr. Sunilkumar Alur, a gastrointestinal surgeon, who enlisted banker Vishal Singhi, already known for hosting the ‘India Pen Show’ in other cities. The inaugural event last year saw over 1,500 visitors, with a Visconti pen, priced over Rs 1 lakh, selling out in just one hour. This success also led to the formation of the Bangalore Fountain Pen Club, set to open soon.

Fountain pen enthusiasts in Bengaluru, including Dr. Alur and industrialist Harsh Makkar, are drawn to these writing instruments for both their functionality and elegance. Dr. Alur, who has a personal collection of eight fountain pens, finds that the pen allows for a thoughtful and expressive way of writing. Makkar, on the other hand, owns over 300 premium pens and continues to add to his collection from various sources, including secondhand markets.

The event will feature fountain pens across a wide price range, from Rs 100 to over Rs 2 lakh, and will offer a variety of ink colors. Visitors can also enjoy live demonstrations, write letters and postcards, and explore unique pen collections.
