A 25-year-old bar employee from West Bengal was allegedly stripped naked, tied up with cable wires and brutally assaulted by a group of men in Bengaluru’s Indiranagar after they suspected him of stealing mobile phones.
The victim, identified as Suraj Roy, had previously worked as a waiter at a restaurant on 100 Feet Road in Indiranagar. According to his complaint, more than nine men, including two former colleagues, detained him at a paying guest (PG) accommodation around midnight on Tuesday and accused him of stealing mobile phones belonging to two residents.
Allegedly tortured to force confession
Police said the accused allegedly stripped Roy naked and tied his hands and legs using cable wires during the assault. The group reportedly pressured him to confess to the theft and return the missing phones.
Roy alleged that he was repeatedly beaten and threatened by the men while being held against his will. Despite the ordeal, he managed to escape from the location and sought treatment at a hospital before approaching the police.
Police register case, three arrested
Based on Roy’s complaint, the Indiranagar police registered a case against the accused under charges related to wrongful confinement, assault and criminal intimidation.
Three individuals identified as Biswajit Das, Chan Ko and Rana Bahadur have been arrested in connection with the incident.
Police officials said the arrested accused have been taken into custody for further interrogation, while efforts are underway to identify and trace the remaining suspects involved in the assault.
Investigation underway
The incident has raised concerns over vigilante-style actions and the dangers of taking the law into one’s own hands. Police have urged the public to report suspected crimes through legal channels rather than resorting to violence.
Further investigation is underway to establish the full sequence of events and determine the role of each accused person.
