A 42-year-old driver has been arrested for allegedly murdering his wife at their residence in Somanahalli village under Kaggalipura police limits, following years of marital discord and suspicion.

The accused, identified as Mahadev, allegedly slit the throat of his 38-year-old wife, Bhagya, a beauty parlour employee, on Wednesday morning. Police said the couple had been facing frequent disputes, with Mahadev reportedly suspecting his wife’s fidelity because she dressed well for work and interacted with people as part of her profession.

Years of harassment led to repeated disputes

According to police, Mahadev had allegedly been harassing Bhagya for nearly five years over his suspicions. Family members stated that arguments often erupted whenever she spoke to someone over the phone, and she was allegedly subjected to physical and mental abuse.

Unable to cope with the situation, Bhagya had reportedly left home and stayed with her sister Sowmya in Uttarahalli earlier this week.

Tragedy unfolds after return home

Police said Mahadev visited his sister-in-law’s house on Tuesday and persuaded Bhagya to return home. During discussions, he allegedly insisted that she stop working and avoid using her mobile phone. Bhagya agreed, and the couple returned home on Wednesday.

Around 11 am, Mahadev allegedly locked the bedroom door and began arguing with his wife. Despite repeated knocks and pleas from his parents and two sons, aged 17 and 12, he reportedly refused to open the door.

Nearly 20 minutes later, family members found Bhagya lying in a pool of blood inside the room. The accused allegedly left the knife behind and walked out of the house.

Accused arrested

Following a complaint lodged by Bhagya’s sister, police arrested Mahadev shortly after the incident. A case of murder has been registered under Section 103(1) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS).

Investigations are continuing.
