Bengaluru: A viral social media review of Basque Bakery in Bengaluru has triggered widespread discussion after a content creator criticised the bakery’s pricing, portion sizes and reservation policy, prompting the establishment to issue a detailed response defending its practices.

The controversy began when Instagram content creator @my__p.o.v__ shared a video describing her visit to the popular bakery as disappointing.

Influencer questions pricing and portions

In the viral video, the creator claimed she was required to pay ₹1,000 per person while making a reservation and alleged that the menu did not display prices. She also expressed disappointment over the portion sizes and taste of the desserts.

Sharing her bill online, she claimed she paid ₹5,250 for just two desserts, leading to widespread reactions from social media users over the cost of dining at the bakery.

Bakery denies allegations

Responding to the viral post, Basque Bakery rejected the allegations and clarified that customers are provided with a digital menu featuring photographs, detailed descriptions and clearly displayed prices for every dessert.

The bakery also stated that the ₹1,000 reservation amount is fully redeemable against the final bill and that details of its reservation policy and pricing are available through the link on its official social media pages.

It further maintained that the desserts served match the portion sizes shown in its promotional photographs and menu.

Online debate continues

While defending its business practices, the bakery described the viral reel as “defamatory” and referred to the creator as an “illegitimate influencer.”

The incident has since sparked mixed reactions online, with some users supporting the content creator’s concerns over pricing, while others backed the bakery, arguing that customers should review the menu and reservation policies before booking.

Neither the claims made by the content creator nor the bakery’s response have been independently verified.
