Bengaluru West City Corporation Commissioner K V Rajendra has directed election officials to carry out the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) process efficiently to ensure electoral rolls remain accurate and updated.

Speaking at a review meeting with officers and staff from the Vijayanagar, Basavanagudi and Padmanabhanagar Assembly constituencies, Rajendra said the primary objective of the exercise is to remove ineligible voters while ensuring that no eligible voter is left out of the electoral rolls.

BLOs entrusted with key responsibility

Rajendra stressed that Booth Level Officers (BLOs) would play the most crucial role during the revision process. He urged officials to thoroughly understand procedures and begin preparations well in advance.

He highlighted the importance of mapping, un-mapping and re-mapping voter data, stating that BLOs, supervisors, Electoral Registration Officers (EROs) and Assistant Electoral Registration Officers (AEROs) must ensure these processes are completed accurately.

Training for newly appointed BLOs was also emphasised to help them effectively handle the technology-driven exercise.

Political party coordination encouraged

The Commissioner advised BLOs to work closely with booth-level agents appointed by political parties and seek their cooperation wherever required.

He also instructed officials to ensure that polling stations are equipped with essential facilities, including internet connectivity, to support the revision process.

Rajendra said sincere and coordinated efforts over the next two months would be essential to complete the groundwork successfully.

Technology-driven revision process

Joint Chief Electoral Officer Raghavendra described the SIR exercise as entirely technology-based and noted that BLOs would be under considerable pressure during the next five months.

He acknowledged that officials may face both physical and mental challenges while carrying out field verification and data management tasks.

Raghavendra urged election personnel to recognise the importance of their responsibilities, adopt a systematic work plan and execute the process efficiently to maintain the integrity of the electoral roll
