Bengaluru: A biker had a narrow escape after his motorcycle fell into a rainwater-filled pothole near Gunjur in Bengaluru, leaving him dangerously close to a passing tanker.
According to NDTV, the rider, identified as Saurabh, who works with Walmart in Bengaluru, was travelling through the waterlogged stretch when his motorcycle suddenly fell into a pothole.
Bike falls into hidden pothole
The pothole was reportedly filled with rainwater, making it difficult for the rider to identify the hazard while travelling along the road.
The motorcycle suddenly plunged into the pothole, causing Saurabh to lose control and fall from the vehicle. A tanker was passing nearby at the time, resulting in a potentially serious situation.
The rider narrowly avoided being run over by the heavy vehicle.
Pothole menace raises safety concerns
The incident has once again highlighted the dangers posed by water-filled potholes on Bengaluru roads, particularly during the monsoon.
The Gunjur incident comes amid continuing concerns over the city’s pothole problem. NDTV had also reported on August 19 that around 300 potholes were identified along a seven-kilometre stretch in Bengaluru.
With water obscuring potholes, motorists and two-wheeler riders can face sudden hazards that leave little time to react.
Need for safer roads
The near-miss has renewed concerns over the need for authorities to identify and repair dangerous potholes, particularly on busy stretches where heavy vehicles and two-wheelers share the road.
The incident also underlines the risks faced by commuters when damaged roads become waterlogged during rains.
