Bengaluru: A 15-year-old Class 10 student was allegedly hacked to death by his paternal uncle over a property dispute at Indira Colony, within the Soladevanahalli police station limits, on Monday night. The accused, identified as Mohan, 45, surrendered before the police on Tuesday morning, claiming responsibility for the murder.
The deceased, Krishna, was studying at a government school in Ivarakandapura. According to the police, the suspected motive for the murder was a dispute over ancestral land involving the accused and the boy’s family.
Deputy Commissioner of Police (North-West) Nagesh DL confirmed that a murder case had been registered and Mohan arrested. Police are investigating the circumstances surrounding the incident.
“At present, a property dispute is suspected to be the motive behind the offence,” the DCP said.
Boy lived with elder brother after father’s death
Krishna and his elder brother, Yeshwanth, had been living in Indira Colony after their father, Muniraju, died 12 years ago following health complications. Their mother had reportedly left the family 14 years ago.
Yeshwanth works as a daily-wage labourer, while Krishna was continuing his education in Class 10.
The brothers’ family circumstances and the alleged dispute over their father’s ancestral property have become central to the police investigation.
Dispute over ancestral land
According to the police, Muniraju owned around one acre of ancestral land near Kundana in Devanahalli taluk.
Mohan, Muniraju’s younger brother, allegedly forged signatures and sold the property to a real estate developer in Yelahanka without informing their sister, Pushpa, or Muniraju’s sons.
Pushpa subsequently lodged a complaint with Vishwanathapura police in Bengaluru Rural district, alleging forgery. The alleged irregularities in the transaction later came to the builder’s notice, according to the report.
Police suspect that the dispute over the land led to repeated arguments between Mohan and his nephews. Investigators are examining whether the property disagreement directly triggered the fatal attack.
The allegations concerning the land transaction and the circumstances of the murder remain subject to investigation.
Accused allegedly attacked nephew at home
On Monday night, Yeshwanth had gone to watch a movie and stayed overnight at a friend’s house, leaving Krishna alone at home.
Mohan allegedly visited the house and picked a quarrel with Krishna before attacking him with a machete. The teenager died in the assault.
The incident came to light amid the subsequent police action, with investigators working to establish the sequence of events leading to the murder.
Uncle surrenders at police station
On Tuesday, around 9 am, Mohan reportedly went to Vishwanathapura police station and surrendered, allegedly informing the police that he had murdered his nephew.
The Soladevanahalli police subsequently arrested him and registered a murder case.
Police are investigating the alleged property dispute, the circumstances of the attack and the sequence of events before and after the incident. The accused’s claims and the alleged motive will be examined as part of the investigation.
The murder has left Krishna’s elder brother without his younger sibling, with the family’s long-running property dispute now forming a key part of the criminal case.
