What was meant to be a joyful engagement celebration turned into a heartbreaking tragedy for a Bengaluru family after a 30-year-old businessman allegedly lost his life in an accident caused by a dangling roadside cable.
Vishal M Lunawat, a dry fruits trader from Chamarajpet, died after his motorcycle reportedly got entangled in a loose wire near the CID headquarters signal, close to Vidhana Soudha, late Sunday night.
Accident happened before engagement day
According to family members, Vishal and his cousin were returning towards Kumara Park after dinner in Jayanagar when the incident occurred.
The family alleged that a loose white cable hanging across the road got stuck in the motorcycle, causing the riders to lose balance and skid.
While the cousin suffered minor injuries, Vishal sustained a serious injury near his left knee after the bike fell.
Relatives said Vishal was conscious after the accident and complained of severe pain in his leg. He was immediately taken to a nearby hospital, where doctors reportedly detected a fracture.
However, while the family was preparing to shift him for further orthopaedic treatment, Vishal suddenly collapsed and lost consciousness.
Family alleges civic negligence
The tragedy has triggered outrage among family members, who accused civic authorities of ignoring dangerous roadside hazards such as hanging wires and poor infrastructure maintenance.
Relatives described the incident as a “preventable tragedy” and claimed similar hazardous cables are commonly seen across Bengaluru roads.
The family also shared videos allegedly showing the loose cable at the accident spot.
They further stated that Vishal’s engagement ceremony, scheduled for Monday, was replaced by funeral rituals as shocked relatives gathered in grief instead of celebration.
Calls for accountability grow
The incident has sparked anger online, with many citizens demanding stricter action against civic negligence and unsafe road conditions in Bengaluru.
Family members have urged authorities to fix dangerous hanging wires and improve accountability to prevent similar tragedies in the future.
